Sound of Music
Presented by Orpheus Musical Theatre Society
June 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 at 8 p.m.
Sunday, June 8 at 2 p.m.
The Sound of Music is one of best loved Broadway musicals of all time. Who can forget “My Favourite Things”, “Do-Re-Mi”, “Climb Every Mountain” and, of course, Maria – the sweet young postulant whose love of freedom makes it obvious to her superiors that she is not suited for religious life. She is quickly sent off to be the governess to Captain von Trapp's seven troublesome children but unlike previous governesses, Maria becomes friends with the children because they share a love of music. Soon, even the strict Captain begins to affectionately admire her and eventually, he and Maria fall in love and are married. The rest, shall we say, is history.
Music by
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.
Stage production by
Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, based on the book, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, by Maria von Trapp. It was the final musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Oscar Hammerstein II would die of cancer just nine months after opening.
This musical will appeal to all ages and is one of the most recognized and best loved musicals of our time.
